I'm searching craigslist for a laptop that will run S3D. I can't use my phone or tablet to control it through the website, and of the 4 apps for it, none support dual extruders, and some just don't work at all. I recently moved and no longer have my printer next to my computer, so i set up octopi to control it, and i'm honestly a bit disappointed.

If you're happy with the slicer you're using then it's fine, I mostly bought it because i wasn't happy with the software i had. If it was a subscription service i wouldn't do it, but a one time purchase of $150 i can manage. If i was still broke that's one thing, but i'm not anymore, and i make enough to get by, so paying for a bit of software here and there isn't going to kill me. I got my MM3 before they had a profile for it as a dual extruder (as i mentioned, no one had one yet), i emailed support and they sent me a file that had a profile for it (one that worked with the built in dual extrusion wizard). So for me, i was able to simply teach my dad to use S3D (for running the printer) and Design Spark Mechanical (for 3d design).

Also, i was teaching my dad to use the software, and rather than teach him how to use different slicers and operating software (again this related to the dual extruders, as matter control and repetier didn't have profiles for it yet, and i wasn't ready to dig in to it that much at the time). The dual extrusion wizard makes that aspect really easy. I see people occasionally complaining about issues removing supports, and i've never had a problem with it. We can only inform you of choices but ultimately, it's up to you. See what configuration options you have, how well it deals, time taken, etc. Take something known like Benchy and see how various slicers deal with it. I don't think any commercial ones do either, so there may be a very good reason for that.ĭon't just stick to one program. None of the free slicers I have looked at do the kind of infill that I want, so far as I can tell. Personally, I prefer the output of Voxelizer to Slic3r, Cura is decent enough, and even built into the print server I am trying out (OctoPrint). Raise3d's Ideamaker slicer has been making the rounds as well. I know people sing its praises, but there are a lot more slicers out there. Simplif圓D to understand how they differ from one another along with their features. There are illegitimate means of obtaining it, but the few that I have found, my antivirus screams to high heaven about, Trojan downloaders embedded in the executables, a few versions behind, etc. here's to give you a broad idea about both the programs, read this article on Cura vs. Non-reddit communities are listed in our getting started guide We welcome community contributions to this wiki!
